Reflections of Joy
It’s been a while since I have shared here and it’s Mother’s Day, but I made a new zine, archiving and reflecting on the community aid and resource fairs I’ve been organizing with community and for our community. A project seeded from the Parents & Protest series that became a collective, seeded from Mother’s of the Weelaunee Coalition and The Highlander School’s Social Justice Committee.
A seasonal free space for intergenerational learning, playing and sharing, as an act of resistance. Nurturing community growth thru a moment of collective joy and mutual aid, while fostering connections, conversations and new skills, that will get us through the days ahead.
My kid’s illustrations are throughout and they wrote a little story also included.
set up to print double sided - on short edge
I hope this project inspires folks to join us or start their own where they are.
This is a community project, seeded from the Parents & Protest collective and tended by myself, in collaboration with community. Parents & Protest is an Atlanta based collective of caregivers supporting children and one another in nonviolent resistance. Formed in 2024, we are made up of parents, guardians, aunties, babysitters, educators, and, most importantly, kids. We plan together and protest together - including hosting the atlFREEfair. We are a friendly group & hope you will come meet us at the Summer atlFREEfair or register to connect with us: http://eepurl.com/g0jPPf
Inspired by ATL Cambalache, “named after “El Cambalache,” a non-hierarchical center for moneyless exchange that was started in 2015 by a group of mostly Mayan women in their home town of San Cristobal, Chiapas, Mexico. Bartering/trading arose in a response to capitalism, but pre-capitalism, most Indigenous communities across the world relied on a gift economy.”
